His stage name was formed from the names of actress Marilyn Monroe and convicted murderer Charles Manson. In 2004, the band's hit "mOBSCENE" was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance".
"This Is the New Shit" is the second single off Marilyn Manson's album The Golden Age of Grotesque. It has several new industrial beats that Tim Skold added when he joined the band as the bassist in 2002. It was the most successful song off of The Golden Age of Grotesque following Mobscene.
This song was featured in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation titled "Suckers". It was also included on the soundtrack for The Matrix Reloaded and used in the movie Hatchet.}
